Nike 6.0 Hits The 2009 Surfer Poll Awards

Everything about the Surfer Poll Awards is a bit larger than life. Held at the gigantic Grove in Anaheim, with all of the best surfers in the world, and more trophy girlfriends dressed to the T than any two eyes could ask for gave the SPA's that larger than life feel. So it made sense we would begin the adventure in the Double Decker Red Bull bus. It picked up a throng of elite surfers including Ian Walsh, Kai Barger, Brother Andino, Luke Davis, Carissa Moore, Monica Byrne-Wickey, Coco Ho & the fellows from Bastard Lovechild of Rock n Roll right here at the Nike Motel No Tell.
We arrived and after a healthy amount of shmoozing it was time to take our places at the table to watch who would be taking home the shiny red Surfboard Plaques. Our very own Nike 6.0 team took down some of the most vied for awards of the night. Dusty Payne won Best Male Performance for his shredding in BS! Carissa Moore and Coco Ho took down the 3rd and 4th slot respectively on the Women's Poll. Monica Byrne-Wickey presented Best Female Performance alongside fellow surf beauty Alana Blanchard. And some of our family from Hurley also made out on top. Rob Machado claimed the number 6 slot on the Poll and Brett Simpson won Breakthrough Performer of the Year. The cherry on top was Kelly Slater claiming Brett as the Man of the hour and year! Could mean a lot coming from that guy.
The after party ensued on the Red Bull Bus which pumped dancetastic tunes all the way back to the Motel No Tell. The 2009 SPA's were a wrap... Another year of crowd filled ooo's, shakas, and awkward surf humor was over, but everyone left with some renewed froth and plenty of laughs under their belt.
